The Great Crate

Created by PLUS 1 (Andy Macdonald, Telly Theodore and Danella Bennett) The Great Crate was a site-specific public artwork for The City of Sydney's Art & About program - and aimed at asking the question: “what is Green Square? – and what will it become?”
Our primary concerns were community engagement and ensuring the artwork sent out a message of sustainability; Dimension of Artwork 10m x 10m x 10m (3–storeys) – constructed from: 256 (rented) shipping pallets (1200mmx1000mm – on loan and were returned) Scaffolding (rented) 768 potted plants and 40,000 seedlings (in trays) – all of which were gifted to the community on the final weekend when the artwork was dismantled Off-grid and lit at night by solar panels the artwork had virtually no footprint – nothing went to landfill The community response was phenomenal and many people asked if it could be permanent!
The project received international coverage on various websites
